Halcyon has launched the Hub 8, a smart display for the kitchen or bedside. It has an 8-inch touchscreen, a 5 MP camera with a privacy shutter and a physical mute switch.

It will play music, show recipes and run video calls. Halcyon says voice recordings are processed on the device unless you turn on cloud search.

This is a demo story: every name, place, organisation and figure in it is fictional.
